Daej Hamilton, owner of Daej Designs

“I knew from a young age that I wanted to make things. After watching my mom study Interior Design, I was completely intrigued by furniture. From the grain on table tops, to how a chair can be the center of attention in any room, I was mesmerized.

I started woodworking in the sixth grade. I continued my education in woodworking throughout the rest of middle school and all four years of my high school career. My first year of post-secondary education began at Sheridan College in their Craft and Design: Furniture program. I later went to Humber College to immerse myself in their Industrial Woodworking Program. In December 2016, I graduated and received my diploma as an Industrial Woodworking Technician.

Not having any examples of furniture makers/designers that looked like me, put me in a position to be that example for others. I find that a lot of the time, people need to be shown that their goals and aspirations are valid; they need to know that they can succeed in a field that may not look like it’s ‘for them’. With that being said, my goal is to inspire.”
